Is there an age limit on claiming a child as a dependent?

Yes, there are age limits for claiming a child as a dependent.

For a qualifying child, they must meet one of these age requirements [1]:

  • Under age 19 at the end of 2024 and younger than the taxpayer (or spouse if filing jointly)
  • Under age 24 at the end of 2024 if a full-time student and younger than the taxpayer (or spouse if filing jointly)
  • Any age if permanently and totally disabled

The child must also be younger than the taxpayer or spouse (if filing jointly) unless they are permanently and totally disabled [2].
