IRS Proposes Registration for Tax Return Preparers

The Internal Revenue Service has issued the results of a six-month study that proposes new registration, testing and continuing education of tax return preparers. According to the report, 80% of American households use a tax preparer or tax software to prepare and file their taxes.

As part of an outreach effort, the IRS is providing tips to taxpayers to ensure they are working with a reputable tax return preparer.
